Fishing Report: Bottom fishing Garibaldi Saturday May 05, 2018

Left Portland at 4:30 a.m. and filled boat up with non ethanol gas, a stop I always make when going to the ocean.  Not very crowded at the ramp, dropped three crab pots and headed towards Three Arches area, on a fairly calm ocean.  The fishing was slower than usual, we only located a few schools of fish during the trip.  This may be do to the soft tide series, but I am not certain.  Ended the day with a limit of ling cod and bottom fish.  The reports of slow, dismal crabbing, were unfortunately very accurate.  We only got five keeper crab out of the three pots.  The bait was good, salmon carcasses.  The ride back around 1:00 p.m. was a little bumpy, as the wind had picked up.  I love the going to Garibaldi.  Closest ocean launch from my house, and I find both the town and coastal area there very scenic.  Fresh ling cod and crab for dinner was very good, as it always is.  Now... time to look for some spring chinook until the bottom fishing and or crabbing improves.  This is o.k. the Willamette is a lot closer, an easy commute, and no flushing of motors, or pressure washing salt off is required.
