Garibaldi fishing/crabbing Sep 15 thru 18th
Headed to Garibaldi Thursday morning, to begin a four day weekend. Went to Three Arches and bottom fished. The fishing was very slow. I did get one nice ling cod, and released three or four small fish, sea bass, yellowtail, canary, etc. Decided to go out to 200’ and troll north heading back to Garibaldi. Caught one coho, then saw boats out west. Went west to 337’ and after losing about four fish, hate netting by myself, managed to get my second coho. We were slightly south of the south jetty out about 8 miles or so.
Friday morning, my friend Rich joined me, we dropped two pots south of the south jetty, and headed back to the same area. It did not disappoint, and we had our four coho in short order. We had more than our two limits of crabs, 12 each, from the pots. On Saturday, my friend Jeff joined me, and repeating the process, had our limits quickly, at 7:40 a.m. Sunday was a rough ocean, we returned to the same spot, trolled for 45 minutes, nothing. Went back in to 200’ trolling east, and I caught one coho. It was rough, so we pulled our pots and headed in. It was great while it lasted, but the fish definitely relocated, or got lockjaw Saturday night.
After more than three years, I am an annual slip holder at the port of Garibaldi, this makes fishing so much more enjoyable, no boat launch, launching/retrieving, etc. I do take my boat out of the water when not there though, no sense having it sit in the salt water if not necessary. Below is a picture of my boat with my friend Jeff sitting on the bow.
