Simple removeable Indoor Sunshade Add <$60
Some days as you’re sitting at the table in the RV the sun can get a little too strong. The accordion shades work for keeping the sun out, but then the light and view are completely blocked. I investigated the combo black out roller shades with sun shade that come with new valance. I did not to have one valance completely different from the others, not to mention the other options are quite pricy.
Then I planned to insert both a sunshade and a roller black out shade inside the existing valance. I was concerned to add that 2 of the 6lb shades into the existing valance/wall anchors. RVs on the move can really shake and I did not want additional issues. I just needed a simple way to set it up when we arrive to a new camp and easy removal for travel without altering the RV stock features.
My solution was to purchase a sunshade at Home Depot and have them cut for my window size. I then cut the length myself and folded the new bottom and glued into place (removing excess fabric helps reduce the weight of the unit).
My shade is 65” width for the window and 44” length for roll down (original was 72”).
How I made it work:
1) Utilized a 1x2 furring strip and spray painted black/brown to blend with existing valance.
2) Attached the hardware that came with the sunshade on the furring strip for the shade to attach. I attached 3 angle brackets. The angle brackets easily slip between top of valiance and ceiling.
3) When at camp, slipped the furring strip over the valance and placed the roller shade in the slots and it was ready to use!
